Postdoctoral Training Fellowships for MB/PhD graduates

Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Training Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for clinicians to make an early start in developing their independent research careers. The awards are aimed at the most promising newly qualified MB/PhD graduates or those who have achieved a high-quality PhD in a relevant subject during or prior to commencing their clinical degree.

The awards allow successful candidates to undertake a period of postdoctoral training in the best laboratories in the UK and overseas. The fellowships, which are for up to four years, can be tailored to allow individuals to continue their postgraduate clinical training.

The scheme is designed to be flexible and can be used in a number of different ways, where the individual may tailor the scheme to meet their specific research/clinical training needs. Applicants must have a relevant connection to the European Economic Area.

Preliminary application deadline: 24 April 2009
Full application deadline: 20 July 2009

Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Longitudinal survey
This winter, people who graduated from Research Council funded research degrees in 2005/06 will be included in a nationwide survey of graduates' destinations. The HESA Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Longitudinal Survey aims to give a clear picture of what postgraduate qualifiers go on to do after graduation. This information will be useful to prospective students planning further study, and be of benefit to the research councils who fund research led degrees. The first biennial Longitudinal survey, carried out in 2006/07, showed that 87.3% of qualifiers from postgraduate research courses entered employment, and that most of the remainder went on to further study.

More information about the survey can be found on the Higher Education Statistics Agency's website at www.hesa.ac.uk/

2009 ACF recruitment will be launched on Friday 14 November 2008, and will be run by Postgraduate Deaneries in England, using National Guidance and a National Application form. Full details are available on the NCCRCD website: www.nccrcd.nhs.uk/
