International Organisations


Gold symbols of Pound, Dollar, Yen and Euro

There are several International Organisations that will  fund scientific research and training in the UK. However these funders may be especially useful for fellowships or short term grants to fund postdoctoral periods abroad or shorter visits to collaborators' labs overseas. 



European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO)

nurtures training and careers at all stages of the scientific career path through courses,workshops conferences and fellowships - and most recently through the Young Investigator Programme.

EMBO promotes mobility throughout member states and globally through post-doctoral and short-term fellowships. The programme aims to promote the transfer of new skills and pratical techniquesto member states and to help build contacts and foundations for future scientific collaboration.

European Union - Community Research & Development Information Service (CORDIS)

provides information funding available throuugh EU R&D programmes such as the Seventh Framework programme (2007-2013) and a number of Fellowship programmes.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO)

"The Science for Peace and Security Programme offers grants to scientists in NATO, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue countries to collaborate on priority research topics."

"Grants are also offered to assist the academic community in Partner countries to set up computer networking infrastructure and to optimize their use of electronic communication."
