The Research Council responsible for distributing most governmental funding for biomedical research and research training is the MRC.

However other Research Councils also fund areas relevant to different aspects of biomedical research, such as

• the BBSRC (genomics, stem cell biology and nanotechnology),
• the EPSRC (material science, information technology and bioengineering) and
• the ESRC (health services research, quality of life and longitudinal surveys).
  
  

Research Councils UK is a strategic partnership of the eight UK Research Councils that does not generally make grants itself. However, it has a current Careers initiative "RCUK Academic Fellowships."
