Pathology

... … is the study and understanding of disease, its cause, how it spreads and how it affects the human body.


Clinical pathology in particular is concerned with the care of patients and works towards better diagnosis and care for sufferers, as well as the prevention of disease.

There are subspecialties such as Histopathology - the study of microscopic changes in diseased tissue – and there can be further specialisation in a particular organ system. For example, a Haematopathologist will be a very important member of teams managing leukaemia and lymphoma patients.
